List of 100 best companies to work for includes many in California.

CNN Money has released their list of the 100 best companies to work for, with a good dose of California firms ranking highly.  This list, based on 2012 data and standards, is based on a partnership between Fortune Magazine and the Great Place to Work Institute, who conducts a thorough survey of corporate America every year.  The survey this year included 280 firms, with 246,000 employees answering questions about management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie.  The survey also weighs a Culture Audit enacted by the Institute, which surveys questions about pay, benefit programs, hiring practices, methods of internal communications, training, and diversity efforts.

Companies need to be in business at least 5 years and have at least 1,000 employees to be eligible, and any negative news is or media reports are considered against their score.

This segment of the list shows the best companies to work for in California, their corresponding rank on the Fortune 500 Index, and their revenue.

So from a Placer County/greater Sacramento area perspective, the questions arise:  Why aren’t we better represented on this list?  What can we do to attract the nation’s best firms?  And how can we help the companies in our own back yard grow and flourish so that they’ll make this list, too?

We’d love to hear from you if you had comments or suggestions on the topic!
